On August 25, the State Council Information Office held a press conference themed "High-Quality Completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan." The press conference highlighted the achievements of customs in safeguarding national security and promoting high-quality development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and answered questions from reporters.
It was announced that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the General Administration of Customs, in line with national regional strategies and opening-up needs, added or expanded 40 ports. As of now, there are 311 ports open to the outside world nationwide, encompassing coastal, inland, and border areas. There are 101 land ports, serving as important channels for connectivity with neighboring countries. During the peak summer travel season, many self-driving tour enthusiasts choose border ports such as Horgos and Erenhot to travel to other countries by car. Currently, there are 28 border ports in my country that offer self-driving tour services. Overall, my country's port infrastructure, characterized by coordinated development across the east, middle, and west, and integrated sea, land, and air, is becoming increasingly integrated.
It was also reported that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the development of smart ports in my country has accelerated. The General Administration of Customs has launched a pilot program for smart ports at 63 ports, achieving initial success. For example, at the China-Laos Railway Port in Yunnan, the General Administration of Customs has leveraged relevant smart devices to achieve cross-border data interconnection and interoperability. Furthermore, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, my country's port capacity will continue to improve. By 2024, import and export cargo volume at water ports nationwide will exceed 4.3 billion tons, a 10% increase from the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan. Air ports will see growth of over 17%, and land ports over 19%. Convenient and smooth port access will accelerate the globalization of more "Made in China" products and the rapid entry of more "global goods" into the Chinese market, better serving the needs of the people.
